During a professional dental cleaning at our practice, a full hour is reserved for each of our patients to allow ample time for the doctor and hygienist to thoroughly:
Remove Plaque
Plaque is a sticky and slightly invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums; this inflammation is the beginning of periodontal disease.
Remove Calculus
Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the teeth for an excessive amount of time. It is firmly attached to the surface of the teeth and forms above and below the gum line.
Polish the Teeth
This process removes stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during brushing and scaling.
